Photo 19-03-2014 14 13 25The Industrial Interest Group (IIG) has provided a forum for two-way discussion. IIG members received advance information about the technologies and materials developed, whilst having the opportunity to steer the project outcomes.  Consortium partners will received external feedback and commercial perspectives on their developments.

Several successful IIG meetings were held throughout the duration of the project, with many members from the construction industry in attendance. Presentations from the meetings can be found in the Downloads section.

The concept of the BioBuild project was the development of biocomposites to reduce the embodied energy in building façade, supporting structure and internal partition systems by at least 50% over current materials – with no increase in cost.

Biocomposites are already used in a number of commercial applications, but for outdoor applications they can be susceptible to long-term degradation caused by moisture absorption and bio-degradation. BioBuild has developed biocomposite materials and construction products with a life span of at least 40 years, by protecting the natural fibres with novel treatments and coatings.

Industrial Interest Group Members:

  • Received the latest updates on project progress, including development of new materials and technologies.
  • Had the opportunity to steer the project outcomes to be industry-relevant.
  • Provided feedback and commercial perspectives on the project.
